The definition
Soft Dramatic pairs a long vertical line with pronounced curve. The bone structure is large and angular, while the flesh is soft and the features are full. In the current ten-type system it is Vertical + Curve.
Soft Dramatic is often flattened into curvy Dramatic. The distinction is practical: a straight column hangs off the bust and hip, while a draped column follows them. The fabric test matters more than the mirror label.
What you may notice
These are the cues the identity is usually described with. They are not a checklist, and a single feature does not decide the type: the overall line does.
- A long line that is visibly pushed out by bust and hip rather than falling straight.
- Large or prominent bones, especially through the shoulder and jaw.
- Soft flesh over that frame, often full through the upper arm and thigh.
- Full facial features: large eyes, full lips, soft cheeks.
Read them as a description of a silhouette, not a rating of a body. The same cues can appear in other identities, especially near a family boundary.
The line in clothes
The styling direction follows the line. It is a starting point for silhouettes, fabric and detail — not a list of rules about what you are allowed to wear.
| Silhouette | Long and fitted through the curve: draped column dresses, a defined waist that continues the vertical, a T-shaped shoulder. |
|---|---|
| Fabric | Fluid but weighted — silk crepe, jersey, soft wool. Stiff fabric fights the line. |
| Detail | Large, rounded or ornate detail, deep necklines and one bold print at a generous scale. |
| Friction point | Short boxy jackets, staccato colour blocking, tiny prints and crisp fabric that flattens the curve. |
Soft Dramatic or Romantic?
Both are soft. Soft Dramatic keeps a long vertical line and a larger bone frame; Romantic is compact, double-curved and rounded at every scale.
Height and the current rule
Any height; vertical line first, curve second. In the current method, 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) and above is treated as a vertical dominant line; below that, the visual answers decide. Height is one input, not a verdict.

Soft Dramatic: questions
Does Soft Dramatic have to be tall?
No, but the line has to read long. In the current method, height at or above 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) guarantees vertical; below that, the visual line decides.
What is the difference between curve and double curve?
Curve is outward roundness somewhere in the silhouette. Double curve means the bust and hip both break the line, with a soft waist between them. Soft Dramatic has curve; Romantic has double curve.
Is Soft Dramatic just a curvy Dramatic?
Not exactly. The frame is usually larger and the flesh softer. The practical test is whether the clothes need to drape around the curve or can hang straight.
